Arthur Whelpdale
Whilst I have had time to delve too deeply into the history of the Whelpdales, I do have some notes and pictures. At least in connection with my branch of the family the name was most notable for the firm of Whelpdale, Maxwell and Codd a piano manufacturer founded by William Whelpdale and W. Maxwell in 1876.
The top picture to the right shows William’s son, Arthur, the date is uncertain but probably during the 1930s or 1940s. I have some pages from Arthur’s scrapbook mostly dating from early years of the Twentieth Century, which includes several pictures of his younger days including this at the time of his marriage to Beatrice Eteson.
I have drawn up a family tree based on the English Census data that goes back to William’s father and, tentatively his grandfather.
